YORK RI JUDO CLUB

York Railway Institute Judo Club is celebrating its success in the recent
Yorkshire and Humberside Team Championships. The junior team emerged victorious
from an extremely hard series of contests, gaining for themselves the gold medal.
The special award for 'Best Boys Performance' and that for 'Best Girls Performance'
were also presented to the York team. The club's senior squad, took part without
a full team of players but still managed to take bronze medal place.

The competition was the first for 14 year old Lindsay Ellwood who was selected to
fight in both the junior over-48kg category and the senior under-57kg category.
In a very tightly fought competition, Lindsay finished the senior match with a
superb win over a more experienced and older player, ensuring that her team came
away with the bronze medal.
